Swimsuit season is here! Finding the right swimsuit that is designed for your figure can sometimes be a little intimidating. Today, I want to help you find the perfect swimwear that looks best for you. I have done some research to help flatter women with different body types: those with curvy shape, those with straighter shape, and those with petite shape.

For curvy shape, a one piece with ruched detailing is perfect to draw the focus away from areas you want to hide. Plus the color is very flattering. Victoria Secret ($58)

For a straight figure, you definitely have to find a top with bows or some kind of seaming around the torso to create a curvier look for more oomph up top. And the color blocked details like bows that sit on the hips add a feminine touch to straight frame. Asos (Top: $23.76) (Bottom: $20.36)

For a petite shape was all dream for those longer, slender legs. Of course we cannot alter those genetics but we can definitely find a few tricks to create the illusion of longer legs. Wearing high waisted bottoms will definitely help pull that trick. JCrew (Top: $54) (Bottom: $50)

CITRUS TUNA TARTARE RECIPE

Sorry I have not posted anything up the last several days. I have been so busy with getting the boutique up and also merging my old blog to my new blog in order for it to be linked from the shop. Yeah, I have a lot going on… But I promise I am now back and will do daily updates. I am not sure if you all got my last post regarding my move to: https://sweetmelangeblog.wordpress.com. Anyways, how was everyone Mother’s day? I had a wonderful day spending it with my family. Here are some pictures from last week. Below is a pictures of my kids and on the right side is a picture of Chloe and my parents. Look how young and cute my parents are. I love them!

Today I will be showing you how to make my all time favorite, tuna tartare. The husband and I both love sushi and we could eat it every day if it wasn’t so expensive. Now once in a while I do enjoy making my own sushi at home. Yes, I loved it so much that I learned how to roll up the sushi and make myself a roll. It’s actually not that hard but very time consuming. Now the Tuna Tartare is definitely easier to make then rolling up some sushi. First you want to make sure you buy fresh tuna. You don’t want to buy it frozen because it can actually make you sick if you consumed it raw. I usually purchase mine at either Central Market or Whole Foods. Make sure you get the Yellow Fin Ahi Tuna. So let’s get started!

Ingredients

¼ cup soy sauce

2 tablespoons fresh orange juice (about 1 orange)

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (about 1 lemon)

½ tablespoon water

½ tablespoon sweet rice wine

Dash of crushed red pepper

¼ teaspoon fresh ginger, peeled and finely grated

¼ teaspoon sesame seeds

4 green onions, thinly sliced

1 shallot, diced

½ pound sushi-grade yellow fin ahí tuna, chopped into ¼ to ½ inch cubes

1 can mandarins 1 avocado, chopped into ¼ to ½ inch cubes

Directions

Add soy sauce, orange juice, lemon juice, water, sweet rice wine, red pepper, ginger, sesame seeds, onions, and shallot in a bowl and whisk until combined. Marinate the tuna in the soy mixture for a couple of minutes. Put a cookie cutter on a serving plate and pack with avocado until it’s about ½ inch high. Slowly pull the cookie cutter up a little bit and pack with tuna pieces about ½ inch high. Slowly pull the cookie cutter up a little bit more and pack with mandarin pieces. Slowly remove cookie cutter. Repeat until all tuna is used. Serve with bagel chips, rice chips, or whatever you please.

HOW TO ARRANGE FLOWERS IN A VASE: ANOTHER MOTHER’S DAY GIFT GUIDE

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there! I know I am a day early but tomorrow I will be busy with family. Lets start by saying how much my mom means to me. She is the most strongest and sweetest person in the world. I love her to death! My mom is my best friend. I share all my secrets with her. I remember back in high school I will always talk to her regarding my boyfriend problems and friends issues. Definitely great times. My mom always makes sure me and my brother have everything. She means the world to me. Because of her… I am the person I am today. I love my mom!!!! ❤

Since Mother’s Day is tomorrow, I wanted show you how to arrange flowers. Okay, after you have chosen what flowers and vase you want to use, the next step is to arrange the stems. I bought all my flowers from Traders Joe. It is super cheap! Anyways, fill your vase with cold water and use floral food. Cut the stems to the size of the vase. You can cut some of the stems a bit longer and a few stems a couple inches shorter. As you arrange, this will help you create grouping that appears to be more full and rounded. Before putting any flowers into the vase, strip the stems of all leaves that will be under the water. Removing the leaves from the stems will help the water last longer.

Criss-cross the stems so they will help support each other. Remember to vary your blooms, but keep the longest stems in the middle of your arrangement. The shortest stems should remain towards the rim of the vase. There you have it! Now you got yourself an arrangement that is half the price. Remember to change the water frequently to stop the growth of bacteria and prevent your water from turning green. By following these simple steps, you will be able to create a beautiful floral arrangement for mother’s day, your home, or to even surprise a loved one for the next occasion. DIY MUG DESIGNS {MOTHER’S DAY GIFT GUIDE}

Mother’s day is in four days and I am sure most of us are last minute people who have no idea what to get the moms. I know it is easy to just go out and buy flowers and a card… But there is more meaning when something is handmade. I think today’s society we forget what is important. It is not all about how much you spent or what brand it is. It’s about the thought that counts!

I am a Mother myself and also a HUGE coffee/tea drinker. Yes… It’s that bad! Well, today’s tutorial I will be showing you how to makeover a simple mug. Perfect for the moms out there who loves drinking coffee or tea. Mental note for any of the dads who are reading this: if you have younger children, you can actually help them make this as well. Get crafty with your kids! It is fun to get a little creative and show the mommies out there how much they mean to you!

Elements needed:

Plain white mug or tea cup

Sharpie Metallic paint pen in gold – they come in different colors as well. I got mine at Home Depot in the paint section.

Instructions: Draw the design onto the mug/tea cup. You can draw a heart or write memos on it. Allow for the paint to set for 24 hours. Once it has set, bake it for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

Easy right? Now you wrap it up in a box and add in a box of mom’s favorite tea or coffee. You can also make this for any occasion. The oil-based paint turns permanent after you bake it. MOST BENEFICIAL SUPERFOOD: HEALTHY FOOD YOU SHOULD BE EATING

I recently read in an article about some super foods that are proven to help fight disease and also help boost energy. I thought this will be something great to write about. Sometimes we lack the importance of foods that we need to consume to ensure a healthy lifestyle. Even I forget what is important. But when you become a mother, you want to make sure that the family intake healthy foods.

Salmon

Salmon is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids and also have a great source of vitamin D, which has been linked to a reduced risk of heart disease, great skin, and aiding weight loss. Omega-3 also slows the rate of digestion, which helps us consume fewer calories. Bake it in the oven on 400 degrees for 15 minutes and add in a side of vegetables and you got yourself a healthy meal.

One medium stalk of broccoli contains more than 100 percent of your daily vitamin K requirement and almost 200 percent of your recommended daily dose of vitamin C — two essential bone-building nutrients. The same serving also helps stave off numerous cancers. For maximum disease-fighting benefits, steam the veggies. By steaming the veggies, you are killing fewer nutrients then by microwaving it.

Avocados are rich in healthy, satisfying fats proven in one study to lower cholesterol by about 22 percent. One has more than half the fiber.  It may help reduce your risk of heart disease. Avocados are a bit high in calories, so make sure to avoid weight gain, use avocado in place of another high-fat food or condiment, such as cheese or mayo. Adding it to your salad can increase the absorption of key nutrients like beta-carotene by three to five times compared with salads without.

Just one lemon has more than 100 percent of your daily intake of vitamin C, which may help increase “good” HDL cholesterol levels and strengthen bones. Citrus flavonoids found in lemons may help inhibit the growth of cancer cells and act as an anti-inflammatory. Add a slice of lemon to your green tea, water, or even sparkling water. Yum!

Dark Chocolate

Just one-fourth of an ounce daily can reduce blood pressure. Cocoa powder is rich in flavonoids, antioxidants shown to reduce “bad” LDL cholesterol and increase “good” HDL levels. So next time if you want to binge, it is okay to have a piece of dark chocolate. You no longer have to feel guilty. Cheers to that!!

Out of all the nuts, walnuts contain the most omega-3 fatty acids, which may help reduce cholesterol. Now Omega-3s have been shown to improve mood and fight cancer; they may protect against sun damage, too but of course still use sunscreen. The key is moderation, since nuts are high in calories. Keep a jar of chopped nuts in your fridge, and sprinkle a tablespoon on cereal, salads, stir-fries, or yogurt. Or have an ounce as a snack most days of the week.

Spinach contains Lutein and Zeaxanthin, two immune-boosting antioxidants important for eye health and also cancer-fighting. Spinach is also rich in iron, which helps deliver oxygen to your cells for energy. Do you remember Popeye? Well it is true, spinach also helps build up stronger muscles. I love to blend some spinach into my smoothies. Try blending 1 cup spinach, 1 cup peach, 1 banana, 1 cup apple juice, and ice. Whola! You get the best source of both worlds.

Eating a serving of beans, peas, and lentils four times a week can lower your risk of heart disease by 22 percent. They are loaded with proteins and dozens of key nutrients that most women fall short on:  which is calcium, potassium, and magnesium. It also helps lower the risk of breast cancer, high cholesterol, and type-2 diabetes.  A great recipe to make with beans is the stuffed bell peppers recipe I posted recently.

DIY GLASS BOTTLE NECKLACE: MOTHER’S DAY GIFT IDEAS

I saw a gorgeous glass bottle necklace at Forever21 and other small boutique stores in Houston several months ago. After seeing these charming necklaces, it approached to me that I can make my own. This will also be a great Mother’s Day gift or bridesmaid’s gift. You can actually put anything inside: from pearls, to glitter, to tiny beads, or roll up a little note.

Supplies:

-small glass bottles

-eye hooks

-jump rings

-necklace chain

-assorted things to put inside: pearls, glitter, beads, feathers, tiny messages, etc.

I got these little bottles from Michaels; it came in a pack of three’s which cost me under $4. If you cannot find it at your local craft store, you can also try Amazon. Alright, let’s get started. First you’ll want to screw an eye hook into the middle of the cork stopper. Second, fill up your bottle with whatever you like!  I chose pearls for one and the other one I added some of the micro beads that I purchased a long time ago for caviar nails with a message in a bottle. Then I used a jump ring to attach the bottle to the necklace chain. Measure how long you want the necklace to be and then add hooks at the end of the necklace to attach it together.

Since Mother’s day is right around the corner, I figured this would  be a great personal gift for the moms. You can add personal messages inside for the moms to read or even print out a small picture of you and her together. The ideas are endless.
